Jouluterveiset Saksasta! Piipahdin joulun alla muutaman päivän mittaisella pikavisiitillä Saksassa ja nyt, kun joulun pyhät oli ja meni, on jo korkea aika kurkistaa miltä jouluvalmistelut näyttivät siellä suunnalla mikäli en halua hautoa näitä kuvia aina ensi jouluun asti. Saksalaiset osasivat todella ottaa kaiken ilon irti joulusta joulutoreineen ja mahtipontisine kuusineen ja valoineen. Aloitetaan pienestä, mutta viehättävästä Rostockin satamakaupungista ja vanhan kaupungin joulumarkkinoista.
Christmas greetings from Germany! Just before christmas I popped into Germany for a quick visit and with the christmas just behind us, it's about time to take peek at what the christmas preparations over there looked like, unless I want to tuck the photos away to wait for next christmas. The Germans really knew how to celebrate christmas with their christmas markets and grandiose trees and lights. Let's start from the small, but attractive harbour town of Rostock and their christmas fair in the old town.
Suomi-kojujakin löytyi melkein koko rivi. En edes tarkemmin katsonut mitä heillä oli myynnissä eikä näistä aamulla kojujen ollessa kiinni otetuista kuvista näe, mutta poro ja kontiot siellä ainakin edustivat maatamme.
There was almost a whole row of booths dedicaded to Finland. I didn't actually even check out what they were selling and you can't see in these morning photos as they're closed, but at least they had a reindeer and some bears representing our country.
Berliiniin minulla on vähän kummallinen suhde. Pidän kovasti Saksasta ja olen matkaillut siellä paljon, mutta maan pääkaupunki ei vain kolahda, ei niin millään. Ensivisiitistäni on kulunut kohta viisi vuotta ja ajattelin, että ehkä nyt toisella kerralla alan ymmärtämään kyseistä kaupunkia paremmin, mutta yhä edelleen jouluvaloista ja -tunnelmasta huolimatta Berliini näyttäytyi minulle jälleen ankeana, harmaana, kylmänä, hajanaisena... Yhteensä en ole kaupungissa kuitenkaan viettänyt kuin nelisen vuorokautta ja tuskin tämä silti viimeiseksi vierailukseni jää. Mutta nyt niihin kuviin!
My relationship with Berlin is a bit strange. I love Germany and I've traveled there a lot, but the country's capital just doesn't do it for me, at all. It's soon five years since my first visit and I thought that maybe now on the second time, I'll start to get what the city is about, but still despite the christmas dressing, Berlin seemed gloomy, grey, cold, disjointed to me... I've only spent about four days there though, both trips combined, and I doubt this was my last visit. But now, let's look at the photos!
Berliinissäkään ei ollut vaikeaa löytää joulutoreja, niitä nimittäin oli vähän siellä sun täällä. Ylläolevat kuvat ovat idästä Alexanderplatzilta, alla vuorostaan lännestä Charlottenburgin hujakoilta.
It wasn't hard to find a christmas market in Berlin either as there were many scattered around the city. The photos above are from Alexanderplatz in the east and below from Charlottenburg in the west.
Moabitin kaupunginosan kauppahalli oli ehkä kiinnostavin löytö tällä reissulla. Palmut ja joulukuuset elivät sulassa sovussa ja löytyipä hallin nurkasta ihan viihtyisä ravintolakin, josta saattoi katsella hallin menoa. Itse tyydyin tylsästi Cokikseen, mutta tarjolla olisi ollut niin ruokaa kuin paikan oman panimon oluitakin.
The market hall in Moabit district was maybe the most interesting find this time around. The palm trees and christmas trees existed in harmony and there was even a cosy restaurant at one corner of the hall, from where you could do a bit of people watching. I only drank a Coke, but they were also offering food as well as beers from their own brewery.
Jouluinen kuvareportaasi on hyvä päättää Brandenburgin portille, josta löytyi kaupungin kaunein – ja varmaan myös kuvatuin – joulukuusi. Toivottavasti jaksoitte katsella joulukuviani, vaikka pyhät jo ohi ovatkin, ja vielä olisi yksi jouluasukin luvassa...
There just couldn't be a better ending to a christmas photo set than the Brandenburg gate with the most beautiful – and probably the most photographed – christmas tree in town. I hope you enjoyed my christmassy photos despite the actual christmas days being over, and I've still got one christmas outfit coming...
