Miss Purple in Trastevere

Muutama asukin tuli ikuistettua Rooman matkalla, vaikka matka-asut noudattivat suurimmaksi osaksi simppeliä ja mukavaa "shortsit ja toppi"-linjaa. Ajatus upeasta reissugarderoobista tuntuu etukäteen houkuttelevalta, mutta kun tulee aika mahduttaa viikon vaatteet pienehköön matkalaukkuun, niin useimmiten mukaan lähtevät kuitenkin ne helposti yhdisteltävät ja monikäyttöiset vaatteet. Ja tietenkin korottomat kengät, matkoilla tulee käveltyä aina paljon.

I did shoot a few outfit photos too while in Rome, though my travel outfits were mostly very simple and comfy "shorts and a tee"-combinations. You always dream of a perfectly fabulous travel wardrobe, but when it's time to fit a week's clothes into a smallish suitcase, you usually end up packing the most versatile and easy-to-pair pieces. And flat shoes of course as there's always a lot of walking to do when traveling.


Kun valikoimaa on rajatusti, tulee myös kokeiltua sellaisia yhdistelmiä, jotka eivät ehkä kotioloissa juolahtaisi mieleen. Näitä kahta lempparivaatekappalettani en ollut aiemmin yhdistänyt toisiinsa, koska molemmat ovat liilansävyisiä ja yleensä haen enemmänkin kontrasteja. Yllättäen tämä nousi silti yhdeksi reissun suosikkiyhdistelmistäni! Lettikammostani huolimatta matkalla tuli muuten usein turvauduttua lettiin, kun lämmin ilma ja Rooman vesi saivat hiukseni muuttumaan karheaksi ja takkuuntuvaksi pörröksi, jota tavallinen ponnari ei yleensä pelastanut.

When you have a limited selection of clothes, you also end up trying pairings that you wouldn't normally think of at home. I'd never worn these two favorite garments of mine together, because they're both purplish and I'd usually rather go for contrasts. Surprisingly this turned out to be one of my favorite pairings of the trip! I also often had to rely on braids even though I'm not a big fan of them, but the warm weather combined with the local water turned my hair into a coarse, frizzy mess that a simple ponytail couldn't rescue.


Nämä kuvat otettiin Tiber-joen länsipuolella sijaitsevassa Trasteveren kaupunginosassa. Tunnelmallinen Trastevere oli suosikkipaikkojani Roomassa, sieltä löytyi kaunista vanhaa kaupunkia ihanine pikkukatuineen ja -kujineen, mutta siellä liikkui paikallisiakin toisin kuin turistien kansoittamassa keskustassa. Turisteja toki riitti Trastevereenkin ja hauska ilmiö oli se, että pysähdyttyämme ottamaan asukuvia tälle hiljaiselle sivukadulle, halusi yhtäkkiä joka ainut sen suuntaan kuvien oton aikana vilkaissut ohikulkeva kanssaturistikin kuvan itsestään samassa paikassa!

These photos were taken at the district of Trastevere on the western side of the Tiber river. Trastevere was one of my favorite places in Rome with it's atmospheric old town and charming little streets and alleys. You could also spot locals there unlike the tourist crowded city center around Piazza Navona and the Spanish steps. Of course there were plenty of tourists in Trastevere too and it was rather funny that when we stopped to take outfit photos at this quiet alley, suddenly every fellow tourist that was passing by and happened to notice our shoot, wanted to have their photo taken at the same location too!
