Off to Maranel... erm, Rome!

Tämä tyttö suuntaa huomenaamuna viikoksi Roomaan! Italiassa olen käynyt aiemmin parikin kertaa, mutta ikuinen kaupunki on minulle ihan uusi tuttavuus. Roomaan on vielä luvattu koko viikoksi hellettä, joten kesäkin saa mukavasti jatkoa reissun muodossa. Matkalaukusta löytyy shortseja, toppeja ja sandaaleja. Ihanaa ajatella, että jo huomenna viiletän jälleen shortsit jalassa!

This girl is heading to Rome for a week starting tomorrow morning! I've been to Italy a couple of times before, but never been to the eternal city before. The forecast looks really good and hot, so the trip is a nice extension of summer. I've got shorts, tops and sandals in my suitcase. What a lovely thought that tomorrow I'll already be back in my shorts!

Intohimoiselle formulafanille oli hauska sattuma, että Kimi Räikkösen Ferrari-siirto julkistettiin reilu viikko sitten. Edellinen visiitti saapasmaahan ajoittui nimittäin Kimin ekan Ferrari-sopimuksen julkistamista edeltävälle viikolle. Siinä missä edellisellä kerralla siirrosta oli huhuttu jo varmaan vuosia etukäteen, tämä uusi sopimus italiastallin kanssa oli aika uskomaton juttu. Nautin siitä, että Ferrarin pääpomo Luca Di Montezemolo joutui nielemään ylpeytensä ja tunnustamaan, että Kimi on kuin onkin paras mies hommaan. Kukapa olisi arvannut neljä vuotta sitten, kun Ferrari antoi Kimille potkut – ja jopa maksoi miehelle miljoonia siitä, ettei hän ajaisi – että hän vielä palaisi formulasirkukseen? Ja kukapa olisi arvannut kaksi vuotta sitten Kimin tehdessä paluun Lotuksella, että hän vielä joskus palaisi Ferrarille? En minä ainakaan. Formulamaailma on ihmeellinen paikka, juuri sen takia sitä rakastankin!

Takkikin kääntyi nopeasti, sillä muutamat viime vuodet olen lähinnä ihmetellyt miten olen joskus kehdannut käyttää julkisesti moisen tallin lippistä... No, lippis ei enää oikein istu tyyliin muutenkaan, joten älkää peljätkö, sitä tuskin tullaan jatkossakaan päässäni näkemään ja säästän teidät vastaisuudessa myös formulahöpinöiltäni. Mutta olipa hauskaa välillä rakentaa asu jonkin teeman ympärille! Olen niin innoissani Kimin sopimuksesta, että oli kiva päästä sitä pienen aasinsillan kautta tännekin hehkuttamaan, heh.

En aio silti ilahduttaa roomalaisia tällä asullani, toistaiseksi matkalaukusta ei löydy edes yhtä ainutta korkkariparia. Matkaan ei ikävä kyllä lähde myöskään läppärini. En yleensä viitsi ottaa konetta mukaan lentäen matkaillessani, mutta nyt pohdin josko tekisin poikkeuksen blogin vuoksi. Bloggausvire on viime aikoina ollut mitä mainioin, mutten todennäköisesti ehtisi kuitenkaan postata sieltä mitään kunnollista, joten läppäri jääköön kotiin. Ajatus tauosta harmittaa kyllä aikalailla. Tabletteja, älypuhelimia tai Instagrammeja ei tältä fossiililta edes löydy... Eli palataan asiaan reilun viikon kuluttua, kun olen taas Suomen kamaralla. Arrivederci ja ihanaa viikkoa sinne ruudun toiselle puolelle!

I'm also a massive fan of Formula 1, so it was a great coincidence that Kimi Räikkönen's Ferrari move was announced just over a week ago. My last visit to Italy was a week before Kimi's first Ferrari contract was announced! This time the move was even more surprising. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that Luca Di Montezemolo has had to swallow his pride and admit that Kimi really is the best guy for the job. Who would have thought as Ferrari sacked Kimi four years ago – and even paid him millions not to race – that he would eventually return to Formula 1? And who would have thought when he made his return to Lotus two years ago that he would still return to Ferrari? Certainly not me. The world of Formula 1 is a strange place, that's why I love it so much! But don't worry, caps are really not my thing, so you probably won't be seeing the Ferrari cap here in the future and I'll also save you from any futher F1 talk. But it was a lot of fun to build an outfit around a theme once and get to rejoice about Kimi's contract here!

I'm not gonna delight the Romans with this outfit though, in fact I haven't packed a single pair of high heels yet. I unfortunately haven't packed my laptop either. I don't usually carry my laptop with me when I travel by plane and this time I was thinking of making an exception because of my blog. I've had a great blogging flow lately, but I doubt I'd have time to post anything decent from my trip, so the laptop shall remain at home. The break really upsets me though... But I'll see you as soon as I get back to Finland! Arrivederci and have a lovely week!

Rocking it out in black and grey

Mitä ihmettä? Värifriikki on pukeutunut päästä varpaisiin mustaan ja harmaaseen! Harmaana päivänä tämä väritön kokonaisuus vain tuntui hyvältä ja erilaisilla pinnoilla kuten nahalla ja mokalla sekä pienellä blingillä, drapeerauksella ja liituraidalla väritön oli kaikkea muuta kuin tylsää. Halusin kokeilla shortsihametta sukkisten kanssa ja upea 2nd Dayn toppi huuteli myös nimeäni. Biker-mallisella nahkatakilla ja nilkkureilla kokonaisuudesta tuli aika rokahtava.

Asukuvien otto on joskus aika mielenkiintoista puuhaa. Mielelläänhän ne ottaisi niin, ettei kukaan näkisi, mutta useimmiten joku kuitenkin sattuu paikalle. Ohikulkijat eivät yleensä haittaa, jos he tosiaan vain kulkevat ohi kummempia ihmettelemättä. Mutta tämän asun kanssa eka kuvauspaikka piti hylätä jo parin ruudun jälkeen huomatessani, että hommaa tarkkailtiin läheiseltä parvekkeelta käsin ja ensimmäinen tarkkailija haki vielä toisen tarkkailijan paikalle. Voi apua, ahdistushan siinä iski! Onneksi matkan varrelta löytyi rauhallisempikin paikka ja kuvat saatiin purkkiin. Huonosta hiuspäivästä ja pökkelöistä poseerauksista en mainitse mitään...

What's happened? The self-confessed color junkie blogger is wearing all black and grey! On a grey day I felt like going colorless and though that can seem a bit boring, with different textures such as leather and suede, a bit of bling, draping and pinstripes it is anything but! I wanted to test-drive the skort with tights and my gorgeous 2nd Day top was also calling my name. Throw in a leather biker jacket and a pair of booties and you have the formula of a perfect fall outfit.

Shooting outfit photos can be quite interesting sometimes. I'd prefer to take them when there's no one to witness it, but someone always seems to pop up. By-passers don't usually bother me, if only they just pass by without paying much attention. But with this outfit, we had to ditch the first location after only a couple of frames as I noticed a man watching the shoot from his balcony and he even went in to get his wife to watch too. Oh my, I got too anxious! Fortunately we found a more quiet location along the way and got the photos. I won't even mention the bad hair day and the stiff poses...

Thoughts on trends and sweatshirts

Muutama viikko sitten tutustuessani lähi-H&M:n syystarjontaan, nappasin spontaanisti sovituskoppiin mukaan pari collegepaitaa pitsisomisteisella yläosalla. Sovitettuani paitoja huokasin oikeastaan helpotuksesta, kun en pitänyt siitä miltä ne päälläni näyttivät, en nimittäin ole kokenut tätä meneillään olevaa collegetrendiä ihan omakseni. Jokin siinä kuitenkin kiehtoo, muutenhan olisin sujuvasti ohittanut rekillä roikkuvat colleget täysin. Viikko sitten samaisessa liikkeessä tulin taas poimineeksi yhden collegen sovitettavaksi, tällä kertaa helmikirjaillun. Ja mitä vielä, se onnetonhan näytti tosi kivalta päällä! Sinne se silti sai jäädä, ainakin toistaiseksi...

A few weeks ago as I was checking out the fall styles at H&M, I spontaneously grabbed a couple of sweatshirts with lace on the neckline to the fitting room. I was actually relieved when I didn't like the way they looked on me, I've not really been feeling the whole sweatshirt trend. But there's still something intruguing about it, otherwise I would have just passed those sweatshirts without a second look. A week ago at the same store I tried on another sweatshirt, this time with beaded embroidery. And surprisingly the damn thing actually looked really nice on! I still left it at the store, at least for now...

College-episodi sai minut pohtimaan trendejä ja suhtautumiseni niihin on aika ristiriitainen. Olen aina vierastanut ajatusmaailmaa, jossa tietoisesti ostetaan vaate vain yhtä sesonkia tai mahdollisesti jopa vain yhtä käyttökertaa varten. Luulisin ja toivoisin, ettei tämä ole kovin yleistä, mutta tällaiseenkin ajatteluun olen törmännyt. Vaikken itsekään osta niitä perusvarmoja klassikoita, punnitsen silti aina uutta ostaessani uskonko käyttäväni kyseistä vaatetta ilolla vielä vuosienkin päästä. En vain pystyisi marssimaan kassalle ajatellen, että tässäpä täksi syksyksi kiva, trendikäs paita, jonka voin kyllästyttyäni heittää kirppiskasaan tai vaatekeräyslootaan... Olen sitä paitsi toivottoman huono luopumaan yhtään mistään enkä silti halua ylimääräistä tavaraa ympärilleni, joten senkin vuoksi helpointa on tehdä tiukka karsinta jo kaupassa.

Voisinko siis ostaa vaatteen, jolle olisin vielä vuosi sitten sanonut ehdottomasti ei, mutta joka yhtäkkiä onkin muuttunut erittäin kiehtovaksi? Haluasinko käyttää sellaista vaatetta vielä vuoden tai kahden päästä? Toisaalta olen viime vuosina muuttunut tyyliltäni kokeilevammaksi ja rohkeammaksi ja iän karttuessa (saahan 26-vuotiaana jo sanoa näin?) en enää jaksa ottaa tyyliäni kovin vakavasti. Ei ole oikeaa ja väärää, oikea on se mikä hyvältä tuntuu. Eli ehkä vaate voisi omassa vaatekaapissa toimia vielä siinäkin vaiheessa, kun muotimaailma on jo siirtynyt eteenpäin? Ja siinä missä tykästyn asioihin välillä nopeastikin, liike toiseen suuntaan ei ole yhtä nopeaa eli jos kerran jostain pidän, todennäköisesti pidän siitä vielä pitkään.

Kollaasin kaksi ensimmäistä svetaria lienevät jo tuttuja kaikille muotia seuraaville, niin valtaisan suosion Kenzon tiikeri ja Karssenin Crème De La Crème ovat saavuttaneet. Itse en ole hittikaksikolle lämmennyt ja vähän mietityttää mitä merkkiä huutaville printticollegeille tapahtuu trendin laannuttua, vieläkö niitä parin vuoden päästä käytetään? Kolmas paita on se H&M:ssä viimeksi sovittamani yksilö. Aavistuksen verran violettiin taittava harmaa ja pieni bling ovat hyvinkin minua ja miellyttäisivät paidassa kuin paidassa. Ehkä väri ja kirjailut ovatkin tässä se juttu ja se, että ne sattuvat olemaan trendikkäässä collegessa olisi vain pieni bonus. Onneksi tunnen harvoin tarvetta ostaa mitään juuri nyt, joten voin rauhassa odotella ja kuulostella vieläkö college jatkaa kutsuhuutojaan.

This got me thinking about trends and how I feel quite torn about them. Consciously buying a garment to only wear it for one season or even just once feels very foreign to me. I hope and I think that it isn't very common, but I've certainly come across that way of thinking. Even though I don't buy those safe classics myself, every time I make a purchase I always consider whether I still want to wear it with joy a few years down the line. I just couldn't buy anything thinking that here's a nice, trendy garment for the season that I can sell or donate when I get bored of it... I'm also completely useless at getting rid of anything, but don't want any extra stuff around me either, so it's easier for me to make the strict elimination at the store.

So could I buy something that would have been a definite no a year ago, but that I suddenly feel very attracted to? Would I still want to wear such garment in a year or two? My style has evolved into a more experimental and bold direction in the last few years and as I get older (is it already okay to say so at 26?), I've started to not take my style that seriously anymore. There's no right or wrong, whatever feels right is right. So maybe the garment could work in my wardrobe even when the fashion world has moved on? And though sometimes I may fall for things very fast, falling out doesn't happen as fast, so once I like something, I'll probably like it for a long time.

Everyone that follows fashion already knows the first two sweatshirts in the picture, that's how immensely popular Kenzo's tiger and Karssen's Crème De La Crème have become. I haven't really warmed up to them and I can't help thinking what will happen to those brand-screaming print sweatshirts as the trend wears off, will they still be worn in a few years? The third shirt is the latest one I tried on at H&M. The slightly purplish grey and a bit of bling are very me and I'd like them in any shirt. Maybe the thing about it is indeed the color and the embroidery and those happening to come in a the trendy sweatshirt package is just a bonus. Luckily I rarely feel the need to buy anything just now, so I can play the waiting game and see if the sweatshirt will keep on calling my name.

Leopard tamer in a denim shirt

Lauantaina esittelemäni leopardikuosinen clutch kesyyntyi lopulta päiväkäyttöön alkukesän suosikillani eli farkkupaidalla! Tai ehkä oikeammin voisi sanoa, että leokuosi ryhdisti rennon farkkupaitalookin, asu nimittäin lähti paidasta. Lauantaina ei ollut enää sitten niin ainuttakaan lämpimän kelin asuideaa ja koska ne toivelistassanikin haikailemani pitkähihaiset shifonkiset paitapuserot yhä loistavat poissaolollaan, nappasin sitten ainoan pitkähihaisen ei-neuleeni eli tämän farkkupaidan ja jalkaan vedin syksyiset viininpunaiset farkut. Yhdistelmä näytti hieman valjulta ja tarvitsi selvästi jotain näyttävää asustetta, joten rohkaistuin ottamaan käyttöön keväällä ostamani leolaukun ja jopa leopardikuosiset korkkarit. Farkkupaita on kyllä mainio vaate tuomaan asuun rentoutta juhlavampienkin elementtien rinnalla. Leoclutch ja leokorkkarit yhdessä tai erikseen voivat helposti olla vähän liikaa, mutta tässä asussa minulla ei ollut lainkaan ylipukeutunut olo.

The leopard print clutch that I showed you on Saturday was tamed down to daytime use by my early summer favourite, the denim shirt! Or perhaps I should rather say that leopard print pulled together a relaxed denim shirt look as the outfit started with the denim shirt. On Saturday I had absolutely no ideas whatsoever left for the warm weather (it's usually much colder here this time of the year) and as those long-sleeved shiffon blouses that I've been longing for are still missing from my wardrobe, the denim shirt, aka my only long-sleeved non-knit top, was all I could think of. I chose these burgundy jeans to go with it, but the outfit still looked a little hollow, like it needed some bold accessories. So I decided to pair it with the leo clutch I bought in the spring and even added leopard print heels. The denim shirt is the perfect garment to relaxify bold elements. The leo clutch and leo heels can easily look a bit over the top, but I didn't feel overdressed at all in this outfit.





Olen muuten tosi laiska lyhentämään housuja ja siihen asti kunnes jaksan ottaa ompelukoneen esiin, taittelen lahkeet vähän omintakeiseen tyyliin sisään, pahoitteluni siis epäesteettisistä lahkeista ylläolevassa kuvassa... Leopardikorkkarit ovat vanhat löydöt Zaran aleista. Muistan kun näin ne ensi kertaa marraskuussa 2008 ja ne olivat mielestäni maailman upeimmat kengät, niin huikean korkeat ja kauniit! Heh, nythän nuo reilut yksitoistasenttiset korot eivät enää mun silmään näytä kovin korkeilta. Silloinkin odotin kärsivällisesti sen reilun puoli vuotta, että sain alkujaan yhdeksänkympin kengät mukavaan kolmekympin hintaan, mikään ei siis ole muuttunut penninvenyttelyssäni.

I'm really lazy when it comes to hemming jeans and until I can be bothered to take out that sewing machine, I just turn them in, so I apologize for the rather visually unpleasant hems in the photo above... The leopard heels are an old find from Zara sales. I remember when I first saw them in November 2008 and they were they seemed like the most beautiful shoes in the world to me, so incredibly high and stunning! And now those four inch heels don't look like anything out of ordinary heightwise. I patiently waited for over six months to snatch them for around 70% off, nothing's changed about my penny-pinching ways since then.

Leopard clutch

Saanen esitellä teille karvaisen leopardikaverini? Otin nämä kuvat jo keväällä blogin ollessa vasta suunnitteluasteella ja koska tykkäsin kuvista paljon, ovat ne pyörineet luonnoksissa odottamassa sopivaa julkaisuajankohtaa. Tänään laukku pääsi vihdoin ulkoilemaan ja tallentui asukuviinkin, joten ajattelin, että nyt on korkea aika laittaa nämä kuvat kehiin.

May I introduce you to my hairy leopard friend? I already took these photos in the spring as I was only just planning my blog, but because I really like these photos, I've kept them in my drafts just waiting for the right moment to publish them. I finally wore this bag today and took some outfit photos as well, so I thought it's about time to get these photos out.

Olen pienestä pitäen ollut perso tälle mielipiteitä jakavalle eläinkuosille, mistä on muuten kiittäminen Spice Girlsiä ja Mel B:tä! Tämän nahkaisen clutchin bongasin joulukuisella Lontoon-matkallani Oxford Circuksen Topshopista ja vaikka ihastuin siihen heti, jätin sen haikein mielin liikkeeseen, koska en ollut varma paljonko sille tulisi käyttöä. Nelisen kuukautta myöhemmin päätin kuitenkin antaa laukulle mahdollisuuden, kun sain sen Topshopin netistä postitettuna kahdellakympillä.

Kesän ajan kaunokainen odotteli kiltisti kaapissa, mutta nyt syksyllä aika on sille otollisempi; leokuosi näyttää niin hyvältä viininpunaisen, khakinvihreän, sinapinkeltaisen ja muiden murrettujen syyssävyjen kanssa, nahasta nyt puhumattakaan. Käytännöllinen laukku ei ole vieläkään ja sen sovittaminen päiväkäyttöön on hieman haastavaa, mutta seuraavissa asukuvissa näette miten sen tänään kesytin! Alin kuva ei muuten ole tämänpäiväisestä asusta vaan on samaa huhtikuista kuvasarjaa kuin muutkin...

I've always had a soft spot for this bold animal print ever since I was a kid, thanks to the Spice Girls and Mel B! I spotted this leather clutch on a trip to London last December at the Oxford Circus location of Topshop and even though I instantly fell in love with it, I left it at the store with a heavy heart as I wasn't sure how much use it'd get. Four months later I however decided to give the bag a chance as I got it for just €20 shipped from Topshop online.

This leopard beauty remained in the closet for the summer, but the current season is more favorable to it; leopard print looks so good with burgundy, khaki, mustard and other autumn shades, not to mention leather. I still wouldn't call it practical and making it fit into daytime is a bit of a challenge, but I'll show you how I tamed it in the next outfit photos! The last photo isn't from today's outfit by the way, it belongs to the same old batch as the other photos...

Fall/winter wishlist

Kokosinpa yhteen pienen toivelistan asioista, joita aion erityisesti pitää silmällä tänä syksynä kaupoilla käydessäni. Listalta löytyy aika samanlaisia juttuja mitä haikailen joka syksy ja mitä en yleensä löydä... Jospa nyt tämän virtuaalisen kollaasin muodossa esitetyt toiveet menisivät paremmin perille ja löytäisin vihdoin ne piilottelevat upeudet!

I put together a little wishlist of the things that I'll be keeping a close eye on while I'm shopping this fall. The list is packed with things that I look for almost every fall and that I usually don't find... So here's hoping that if I send this virtual wishlist out to the universe via my blog, I'll finally find those hiding beauties!

Asettelin nämä hyvin löyhästi asteikoille sen mukaan mitä vaatekaappini tuntuisi eniten tarvitsevan ja mitkä taas ovat niitä villejä kortteja, joita en jättäisi kauppaan täydellisen osuessa kohdalle, mutta joita ehkä minulta jo löytyy tai voin elää ilmankin. Listasin alle vielä vähän tuntomerkkejä hakemistani jutuista ja huomasin, että niissä toistuu tietyt tekijät. Värien ystävänä kaipaan väriä piristykseksi syksyn ja talvenkin keskelle, mutta niitä omaa silmää miellyttäviä värejä on harmittavan vaikeaa löytää. Haen aina vähän erikoisempia vaatteita, joissa on joku juju, kiinnostava yksityiskohta tai upea leikkaus. Käytännöllisyys on myös tärkeää eli kylmiä kelejä kohti mennessä kaipaisin muunmuassa hyviä ja lämpimiä materiaaleja ja pitkiä hihoja.

I put these very roughly on a scale based on how much I think I need the items in my wardrobe or whether they're something that I could live without, but wouldn't turn down if I'd come across the perfect one. I also wrote down the features that I'm mainly looking for in each category and it turned out that there's a lot of common factors. I love color and I crave it even during fall and winter to brighten up the darker outfits, but finding the kind of colors that I like is a difficult task. I'm always looking for exquisite pieces that have some amazing details or a stunning cut. Practicality is also important, living in a cold climate I look for things like good, warm materials and long sleeves.

Blouses - long sleeves, chiffon, loose-fitting, flowy, colored + cream/off-white

Khaki jeans - skinny, low waist, plain (the good ones are always out of sizes)

Knits - colors, great cuts, loose-fitting, round necklines, details, embellishments, sequins, non-acrylic

Winter coat - wool blend, colored, some natural fibres, warm collar, long enough to cover the bum, details

Bling - embellishments, sequins, pearls, metallics

Leather - exquisite, gorgeous leather jackets, black leather trousers, leather shorts

Dresses - color, thick fabrics, knit dresses, long sleeves, to be worn with tights and boots

Boots and booties - high heels, stilettos, wedges, kid/calf leather, boots in black, maybe tan, booties in black or colored

Hats - wool, brims, colors

Colored bags - genuine leather, affordable (high street), big, top handle, not too plain

Oh no, not another Zara skort!

Oh, yes! Zaran sovituskopissa pohdiskelin tovin jos toisenkin voinko ostaa varsinaisen bloggarituotteen. Kyseessä on tietenkin the skort. Jos luet muotiblogeja, et varmaankaan ole pystynyt välttymään siltä tänä kesänä. Edestä se näyttää hameelta, mutta oikeasti kyseessä on shortsit. En ihastunut siihen ensi näkemältä, mutta pikkuhiljaa tykästyin leikkaukseen. Kesäversiot eivät kuitenkaan väreiltään miellyttäneet lainkaan. Suunnilleen kuukausi sitten huomasin Zaran nettisivuilla harmaan villakankaisen liituraitaversion, joka sytytti heti. Vielä kun näin sen kauniin Heidin päällä ja tiesin, että se on tullut kauppoihin, niin pitihän sitä suoriutua lähimpään Zaraan sovittamaan.

Hyvältä se näytti sovituskopissakin, mutta kysymys kuului onko skort ihan minua, onko se jotain, jota voin käyttää vuosia, vai haluanko sen vain koska se on nyt niin pinnalla? En kiellä etteikö mukana varmaan olisi jälkimmäistäkin, mutta se on oikeasti tosi hauska vaatekappale. En juurikaan käytä hameita, en vain osaa, minihameita vielä vähemmän, mutta shortsit ovat ehdottomasti mun juttu. Shortsihameessa hameen tyylikkyys yhdistyy shortsien helppouteen, best of both worlds. Ja hei, olettehan nähneet ne harmaat rusettishortsini? (asukuvia niistä löytyy täältä, täältä ja täältä) Olen käyttänyt niitä erittäin ahkerasti jo kolme kesää, harmaat shortsit vaan tuntuvat sopivan melkein kaikkeen ja erikoisen leikkauksen ansiosta niihin ei edes niin vaan kyllästy. Nyt minulla on siis kesäisten rusettishortsien lisäksi täydellinen talviversio harmaista shortseista! Skort näyttää varmasti hyvältä sukkisten kanssa ja koska materiaalista kolmannes on villaa, ei takapuolikaan pääse jäätymään!

Oh, yes! I was at the fitting room at Zara trying to figure out whether I could buy such a fashion blogger item. Yes, I'm talking about The Skort. If you read fashion blogs, I'm sure you haven't been able to avoid it this summer. It's an ingenius pair of shorts that looks like a skirt from the front. I didn't fall in love the first time I saw it, but over time grew very fond of the cut. However, the summer versions did absolutely nothing to me in terms of colors. Then about a month ago as I was casually browsing the Zara website, I spotted this grey pinstripe version in a wool blend fabric and let me tell you, that was love at first sight! So when I saw it on the beautiful Heidi and knew it had hit the stores, I just had to get myself to the nearest Zara to try it on.

It looked just as pretty in the fitting room, but then I had a bit of dilemma. Is the skort really me, is it something I can wear for years or do I just want it because it's such a hot item right now? Of course there's a bit of the latter involved, I can't deny that, but it really is a great garment. I rarely wear a skirt, I just don't know how to and I don't do miniskirts either. Shorts on the other hand are a big favourite of mine. So with the skort I get the best of both worlds, the chicness of a skirt with the ease of shorts! And seriously, have you seen those grey bow shorts of mine? (outfit photos here, here and here) I've worn them to death for three summers now, grey shorts seem to go with everything and with a great, distinctive cut they never get boring either. So now in addition to my summery bow shorts, I have the perfect winter version too! The skort will look so good with tights and with a third of wool in it, I won't be freezing my butt either!


Sunnuntaina ei vielä ollut pelkoa jäätyneistä takapuolista ihanan intiaanikesän helliessä. Rakastan auringon lämpöä ihollani, joten jälleen kerran piti ottaa lämmöstä kaikki irti lyhyillä lahkeilla. En malttanut odottaa, että saan skortin päälle, joten se oli helppo valinta ja tämä kauniin sävyinen Cristellen toppi oli sille täydellinen pari. Tuntuu, että tämä asu on nähty täällä jo monta kertaa, ei samoilla elementeillä, mutta samalla kaavalla kylläkin. Mutta hei, jos se toimii, niin miksi ei? Tämä saattaakin olla jo viimeinen kerta tänä vuonna ennen kuin päälle pitää lisätä kerroksia...

There was no fear of frozen butts though when I wore it for the first time on Sunday. We've had a bit of an Indian summer here and since I just love feeling the sun on my skin, I of course have to take full advantage of every warm late summer day and get those legs out. The skort was a natural choice as I just couldn't wait to wear it and this Cristelle top in the most beautiful dusty lilac shade was the perfect companion to it. I feel like you've seen this outfit so many times, not the exact same elements, but the same formula. But hey, if it works, then why not? This might be the last time for this year though before I'll spice it up with some layers...

Burgundy temptation

Törmäsinpä Stockalla täydelliseen villakangastakkiin. Olin vain ohikulkumatkalla kohti huokeampia osastoja havaitessani silmäkulmastani jotain todella kaunista. Aivan ihana viininpunaisen sävy, uskomattoman upea kaulus, ajaton, naisellinen malli, 70% villaa ja 10% kashmiria. Sanoinko jo, että se oli täydellinen? Kyseessä oli Ted Bakerin Adalya-takki, syyskuun kanta-asiakastarjouksessa 279€. Normaalihintaan en olisi edes harkinnut, mutta tarjous sai minut nappaamaan takin sovituskoppiin ja kaunis se oli päälläkin!

I just saw the most perfect wool blend coat at Stockmann. I was walking towards the more affordable departments when something beautiful caught my attention. A gorgeous shade of burgundy, an incredibly stunning big collar, a timeless, feminine shape, 70% wool and 10% cashmere. Did I already mention how perfect it was? It was the Adalya jacket by Ted Baker, €279 for the loyalty card owners during September. I wouldn't even have looked twice for the full retail price, but because of the offer, I just had to try it and oh, how beautiful it looked on as well!


Edellisen talvitakkini ostin viisi vuotta sitten ja sitä samaa Zaran satasen maksanutta villakangastakkia olen ostohetkestä lähtien käyttänyt joka ikinen päivä marraskuusta maaliskuuhun eli käyttökerran hinnaksi on jäänyt vain joitain senttejä. Yhtä kauan olen haaveillut siitä, että minulla olisi talvitakeissa valinnanvaraakin ja joka talvi olen kolunnut moneen kertaan sekä kaupat että nettikaupat uutta takkia metsästäessäni, turhaan. Toiveissa on nimenomaan ollut jotain väriä. Viininpunainen olisi värinä mitä kaunein sekä tarpeeksi tumma sopiakseen erinomaisesti talvivaatteiden kanssa. Vanhassa Zaran takissani olen tykännyt hurjasti käytännöllisestä kauluksesta, jota voi pitää avonaisenakin, mutta tarvittaessa (eli Suomen talvessa aina...) sen saa kiinni ihan leukaan asti. Tässä olisi kaulus samalla idealla ja kauneudessa vielä potenssiin kymmenen! Ja tarvitseeko materiaaleista edes mainita? Halvemman hintaluokan takeissa luonnonkuituja ei tunnu olevan enää edes nimeksi. Ihastuin muuten lähes samanmalliseen Ted Bakerin takkiin jo melkein kaksi vuotta sitten ihanassa Strictly Style-blogissa, joten ei liene pelkoa, että kyllästyisin malliin.

En tosiaankaan tiedä vielä mitä takin kanssa tekisin. Näillä perusteilla hinta ei kuulosta täysin kohtuuttomalta täydellisestä talvitakista, jota voisin käyttää vuosikausia, mutta ostopäätöksen tekeminen onkin sitten tällaiselle pihille jahkailijalle asia erikseen... Mutta voi miten upea se onkaan! Tekisiköhän tämä kaunokainen kylmistä talvipäivistä edes himpun verran siedettävämpiä?

I bought my previous winter coat five years ago and I've been using that very same Zara coat every day from November to March ever since, which brings the cost per wear down to just some cents. And for just as long I've also dreamt of having some variation when it comes to winter coats. Every winter I've scoured stores online and offline in hopes of finding a new coat, to no avail. I've mainly been hoping for some color. Burgundy is such a beautiful color and dark enough to go with winter clothing. One of my favourite details in my old Zara coat has been the practical collar, which can be worn open, but when needed (always in the Finnish winter...) can also be done high up to protect the neck. This collar has the same idea, but in a more stunning package. And do I even need to mention the material blend? The more affordable coats hardly contain any natural fibres these days. I actually fell in love with a very similar Ted Baker coat almost two years ago in the lovely Strictly Style blog, so I don't think I'd need to worry about falling out of love with it anytime soon.

I really don't know what to do with the coat yet. With the above reasoning, the price doesn't seem too bad for the perfect coat that I'd wear for years and years, but to actually take it to the counter or press that "confirm order" button is a whole other story for a frugal procrastinator like me... But goodness me, isn't it just absolutely stunning? I wonder if it'd make those cold winter days even a little more bearable?

Mustard and plum

Ennen loppuviikosta yllättänyttä intiaanikesää, ehti muistikortille tallentua yksi hyvin syksyisen asukokonaisuus. Näytän muuten näissä kuvissa järkyttävän kalpealta ja tukkakin on ihan pörrössä kosteudesta, mutta ei anneta sen häiritä. Luumunvärinen bleiseri on yksi suosikkiostoksistani viime syksyltä, väri on todella kaunis ja klassinen malli menee niin monenlaisten vaatteiden kanssa. Sinapinvärinen toppi on itseasiassa mekko, hyvin lyhyt mekko, jossa on helmassa kolme piparkakkureunaista kerrosta. Hoksasin kerran, että tunkemalla kaksi alempaa kerrosta housuihin, siitä saa täydellisen topin. Ihanaa löytää ihan uusia tapoja käyttää tuttua vaatetta! Pituus vaan oli vähän hassu tämän bleiserin kanssa ja se kaipasi vyötä, jolla helman saisi nostettua aavistuksen ylemmäs. Minulta ei oikein kapeita vöitä löydy, mutta sitten muistin tämän ikivanhan ja aivan liian ison leopardivyön, jonka sitaisin vyötärölle rusetille ja se sopikin erinomaisesti muuhun asuun. Murrettuja värejä leopardikuosin kanssa täytyy ehdottomasti kokeilla toistekin!

Jalassa olivat edellisessä postauksessa esitellyt ei-niin-mukavat avokastulokkaat. Täytyy sanoa, että vaikka ne mielestäni veivät selvästi voiton kuvassa, jossa vertailin niitä rinta rinnan Zaran pari senttiä matalampiin avokkaisiin, niin ehkä ne Zaran avokkaat näyttävät silti paremmilta ja ennenkaikkea sirommilta jalassa. Nämä kengät näyttävät aika isoilta näin pienen ja lyhyen ihmisen jalassa. Miksi minulle tulee melkein paha mieli kirjoittaa kauniista kenkäparista näin? Voi popoparkoja...

Before the indian summer hit us a couple of days ago, I wore this very autumnish ensemble. I look terribly pale in these photos and my hair is a frizzy mess because of the humidity The plum blazer is one of my favourite purchases from last autumn, such a gorgeous color and a classic shape that goes with just about everything! The mustard top is actually a dress, a very short one with three scalloped edge layers on the hem. I once noticed that by tucking the two longer layers into my jeans, it actually makes a perfect top! I just love it when I find another way of wearing something. The length, however, was a little bit awkward with the blazer, so it needed some kind of a belt to lift the hem just a little. I hardly have any skinny belts, but then I remembered this really old and way too large leopard belt that I tied into a bow and it went perfectly with the rest of the outift.

I'm also wearing the new and not-so-comfortable pumps that I showed in my previous post. I gotta say that even though I totally prefer them in that side-by-side photo with the slightly lower Zara heels, maybe the Zara pumps still look better on the foot. These shoes look quite big on a small and short person.Why do I feel so bad writing this about such a beautiful pair of shoes? Poor little heels...

The battle of the black pumps

Korkeakorkoiset avokkaat ovat ehdottomasti yksi pukeutumiseni kulmakiviä ja niistä klassiset mustat pääsevät käyttöön kerta toisensa jälkeen. Viime vuodet olen kopsutellut menemään Zarasta ostamillani mokkaisilla ja äärettömän mukavilla kaunokaisilla, mutta niiden rinnalle olen etsinyt myös pintanahkaisia versioita. Yleensä pyrin välttämään samankaltaisten vaatteiden ja asusteiden ostoa, koska tykkään variaatiosta ja mieluummin käytän rahani johonkin uuteen ja jännittävään. Olisinkin mielelläni jatkanut yhdellä hyväksihavaitulla mustalla avokasparilla, mutta valitettavan usein säätiedotuksen luvatessa edes vähän sadetta, joudun sujauttamaan jalkaan korkojen sijasta ne iänikuiset balleriinat, koska en uskalla käyttää mokkaa sateella.

High heeled pumps are definitely one of my wardrobe staples and those classic black pumps get worn time and time again. For the past few years I've been strutting away on a extremely comfortable suede pair from Zara, but I've also been looking for a regular leather version. I generally try to avoid buying too similar clothes and accessories, because I like variation and would rather spend my money on something new and exciting. I would have happily continued with my one black pair, but too often when there's even a little rain in the forecast, I have to opt for boring ballerinas instead of heels as I never wear suede in the rain.


Sopivien mustien pintanahkaisten avokkaiden löytäminen oli kuitenkin yllättävän vaikeaa siihen nähden, että värifriikkinä aina harmittelen sitä miten kenkäkaupoista löytyy vain mustia kenkiä... Kriteereinä korkea korko, piilotettu platform, pyöreähkö kärki ja yltäpäältä aitoa nahkaa. Löysin Brandosin sivuilta kriteerit täyttävät Bronxin kengät jo alkukesästä, mutta jälleen odottelu kannatti ja sain ne lopulta kotiutettua naurettavan alhaiseen 21€ hintaan! Alkuperäinen hinta yli 100€... Odotukset olivat korkealla ja voi miten huikean kauniit kengät sieltä paketista paljaistuikaan! Ulkonäkö oli täysi kymppi, mutta koko aavistuksen verran reilu eikä pienempää ollut enää jäljellä. Halvan hinnan vuoksi uskalsin ottaa riskin, iskin kenkiin kantalaput ja otin ne käyttöön. Ikäväkseni on todettava, etteivät uudet tulokkaat pärjänneet mukavuustestissä ja Zaran uskolliset mokka-avokkaat, joilla jaksaa helposti tepsutella koko päivän, säilyttävät yhä asemansa luottokorkkareina. Harmittaa, kun olen jo vuosia etsinyt noita pintanahkaisia ja nämä olivat ensimmäiset kriteerit täyttävät sopivassa hintaluokassa...

Minulla on muutenkin viha-rakkaussuhde avokkaiden kanssa, täydellisen mukavia avokkaita on niin vaikea löytää. Saappaiden ja nilkkureiden kanssa ei koskaan ole ongelmia, mutta avokkaat, huoh... Turhauttavinta on se, että sisällä, tasaisella lattialla ne tuntuvat lähes aina hyviltä, mutta ei niistä koskaan oikeasti tiedä kunnes ekan kerran kävelee vähän pidemmän matkan ulkosalla ja sittenhän palautus ei enää onnistu. En aio vielä luovuttaa Bronxin kenkienkään kohdalla, katsotaan jos ne vaativat vain vähän totuttelua. Huikean kauniit ne yhä ovat!

Finding the perfect black leather pumps was surprisingly hard considering that as a colorlover I'm always complaning about how the shoe stores are full of black shoes only... I was looking for high heels, hidden platform, almond toe and leather inside out. These Bronx shoes that I found in early June ticked all the boxes and a bit of waiting paid off as I finally got them for a measly €21! Original retail price over €100... My expectations were high and once took them out of the box, they were absolutely gorgeous! So, the looks were perfect, but the sizing was a bit large and there was no smaller size available anymore. Due to the cheap price, I took the risk, sticked on some heelpads and off I went. Unfortunately I have to say that the newbies didn't do very well in terms of comfort and my loyal suede Zara pumps, that I can easily walk in all day, still remain as my go-to pumps. What a letdown as I'd been looking for such shoes for years and these were the first ones that not only looked perfect, but were in my preferred price range...

I have a love-hate relationship with pumps anyway, it's so difficult to find entirely comfortable pumps. Boots and booties are never a problem, but pumps, *sigh*... The most frustating bit is that they usually always feel good inside on smooth surfaces and it isn't until that first outing when you really find out whether they're good or not and that's when it's too late to return. I'm not gonna give up on my Bronx shoes just yet, perhaps they just need a little getting used to. They're still so damn gorgeous!

Outfit in subdued hues

Viime viikolla oli mieli vähän maassa, sen takia blogissakin oli aika hiljaista. Yllätyin itsekin miten vaikeaa alakuloisella mielellä on kirjoittaa, ainakaan mitään kevyttä. Mutta nyt kun olo on jo pirteämpi, niin laitetaan kehiin yksi asu. Asun värimaailma kyllä kuvasti senhetkistä olotilaa tummine ja hillittyine sävyineen, ja sopi siten mainiosti alkavaan syksyyn.

Last week I was feeling a bit down, that's why it was rather quiet in the blog too. I was surprised by how hard it is to write anything light when you're feeling low. But now that I'm feeling better, let's publish an outfit. The colorscheme did reflect my mood that day with it's dark and subdued hues, thus fitting perfectly into early fall.


Rakastan noita vuosi sitten ostamiani vahapintaisia farkkuja ja ne taitavat päästä taas syksyllä tehokäyttöön. Tavallisia mustia farkkuja tuskin olisin ostanut, mutta vahapintaiset? Kyllä kiitos! Ainoa huono puoli niissä on, että vahapinnoite kuluu ajan myötä pois, höh. Tuntuu, että ne kaikista lemppareimmat vaatteeni ovat myös juuri ne, jotka ovat kaikista herkimpiä kulumaan... Yläosaksi valikoitui viininpunainen t-paita ja sen päälle harmaa neuletakki. Neuletakki on taas äitini vanha, minusta on hauska tarttua vaatekappaleisiin, jotka eivät ehkä ole ihan minun tyylisiäni tai sellaisia, joita olisin itse ostanut, ja kokeilla miten ne sopivat omaan vaatekaappiini. Tämä näyttikin yllättävän kivalta päällä ja toi särmikkäiden farkkujen rinnalle mukavaa pehmeyttä. Taas löytyi niitä rakastamiani kontrasteja!

I love these waxcoated jeans that I bought a year ago and I'm sure they'll be in heavy rotation this fall too. I doubt I'd have bought regular black jeans, but waxcoated? Yes, please! The only downside is that the coating does wear off with time, what a shame. My very favorite garments are always the most delicate ones... On the top I wore a burgundy t-shirt and over that a grey cardigan. The cardigan is my mom's old again, I think it's fun to try garments that are not exactly my style or what I would have bought myself and see how they fit into my wardrobe. This looked surprisingly good on and brought some comfy softness alongside the edgy pants. I certainly love my contrasts!
